Bravães is a small village, that belongs to Ponte da Barca district, where I have my roots. My mother was raised there and although I go from time to time, I always visit the church of Bravães. I'm not very religious, but I always like to get to know a little bit more of the cultural and historical churches wherever I am. You can tell that by the previous posts. :p This particular church is probably as old as Portugal. It goes back from D. Afonso Henriques reign, our first king. It was before part of a Benedictine monastery. People from the village still call this small and dark church as "Monastery". Inside the weak light reveals simple frescoes of the Virgin and Saint Sebastian. One of the entrances decorated with carved animals, birds and human figures.
Outside this historical church, Bravães has also to offer other enchanted places. Like the "Fonte Santa" (Saint Fountain) its water is considered a remedy for all evil. Really close to that place you can find kms of an "ecoway" where you can walk or cycle, being in contact with this peaceful nature. :)
