Lisboa: Baixa e Chiado

O tempo continuava cinzento e chuvoso, mas isso não fez deter o turista ávido por conhecer Lisboa. Primeira paragem no Terreiro do Paço e avistar o renovado cais das colunas e a estátua de D. José. Agora é caminhar através do magnífico arco da rua Augusta e passar pela rua animada por artistas de rua. Passagem pelo Rossio só para uma espreitadela e ver o teatro D. Maria II e mais à frente o curioso edifício da estação de comboios. Fica-se por ali a deambular pela praça, como alguém perdido na conversa até tomar a decisão de ir até ao Chiado e visitar, subindo a calçada do Sacramento, as ruínas da igreja do Carmo, um dos principais testemunhos do trágico terramoto de 1755.

The weather was gray and rainy, but that didn’t stop the avid tourist in getting to know Lisbon. The first stop was at Terreiro do Paço and see the renovated Cais (quay) of Colunas and the statue of king D. José I. We walked through the magnificent arch of Augusta street, one of the main arteries of Lisbon’s downtown with street artists. Passing at Rossio just to take a quick look at the D. Maria’s National Theatre and walking further we could see the curious and beautiful building from the train station. We strolled around there, distracting ourselves with the details and a relaxing conversation until we finally took the decison in walking back to Chiado and visit, climbing the Calçada do Sacramento, the ruins of the church of Carmo, one of the main witnesses of the tragic hearthquake of 1755.

Esta última semana do ano 2008 não foi a melhor semana para turismo por Lisboa. Quem o disse foi, sem dúvida, o meu amigo visitante que não achou muita piada ver a cidade em tons de cinzento. Mesmo assim ficaram belas fotos e certamente boas memórias para mais tarde recordar. :)

This last week of 2008 wasn't the best week for tourism in Lisbon. Who said that was my friend that visited me those days and that didn't find funny seeing the city dressed in gray. Still, there were nice moments to take some photos and also nice moments to remember. :)
